Balancing Act – a villanelle

I balance on the precipice of here and now and then
And wonder if we'll ever find our destiny crusade.
I search behind your eyes for hope and comforting, again,

Yet still I'm trapped in madness of the nowhere that we've been.
I delve into the perils of lost love's hard promenade,
And balance on the precipice of here and now and then.

My counterpoise soon paralized; I've lost my fountain pen.
And I, the rampant writer trapped within a love decayed,
Soon search behind your eyes for hope and comforting, again,

Yet cannot find an attitude from you, 'cept what if when.
And so I act the riotous, perpetuous charade --
And balance on the precipice of here and now and then.

My timing twists the seconds as I feign commedienne
And tempt you with a wink and smile, my countenance unfrayed –
But when I search your eyes for hope and comforting, again,

The night intrudes with black to quell the memory of when.
The moon's embracing light begins to surface then to fade.
I balance on the precipice of here and now and then.
I search behind your eyes for hope and comforting, again.
